Encounter was an exciting arts project that happened in town centres across North Kent. Between July and November 2011, Encounter transformed six urban sites in Medway and the boroughs of Gravesham and Swale. For press coverage of Encounter, see the Press Page.
The ‘encounters’ were temporary, site specific installations, performances or events developed in partnership with local community groups. They took place in familiar spaces in the heart of the community – empty shops, vacant buildings, businesses, high streets and public squares. Find out more about the commissions here.
Encounter was linked by a programme of talks and discussions, and by documentation through writing and photography.
Encounter was produced by NKLAAP (North Kent Local Authority Arts Partnership), a local authority arts partnership incorporating Medway Council and the boroughs of Gravesham and Swale. It was funded by NKLAAP, Arts Council England and Kent County Council.
